SERVICE PROJECTS

In 1997, the BSA committed to providing 200 million hours of service to America  by it's youth members each year.   This idea of "doing for others" has been a central point in scouting since it's inception.  Service projects are also a requirement for most ranks, including Star, Life, and Eagle Scout.
Service Project, December 2005  Troop 45 Scouts spend several hours serving as traffic control for the community Christmas parade.
Service Project For Cubs, October 2005   Our Scouts spent the weekend at the council Cub Family Weekend teaching basic pioneering skills and building a tower as a means of introducing Boy Scouting to Cub Scouts.
FUMC Service, September, 2005:  Troop 45 scouts cleaned and mopped the floor in the FUMC Fellowship Hall, CLC kitchen, hallways, etc., and set up chairs in the CLC for the Contemporary Service the next day.  This was to aid the Red Cross in cleaning up after they had used the facilities for hurricane Katrina refugees.
Eagle Project, 2005: Patrick McFadyen obtains and installs, with the help of the Starkville Fire Dept.,  blue reflective street markers to identify fire hydrant locations in parts of the city.
Eagle Project, 2005: Thomas Sowers builds and installs five handicapped-accessible voting booths for the city of Starkville polling places.
Service Project, December, 2004: T45 serves the Garden Club, and then does traffic duty for Channel 5 during the Christmas Parade.
Emerson School Service Project, Sept. 13, 2003  Our scouts spent the day making improvements to the playground at Emerson School.
